Heavy rains lead to traffic jams in Gurugram & Delhi

The city has been facing power outages for some time, with heavy rain and thunderstorms on Monday morning. Many commuters were stranded on the roads and floodwaters led to riots. Several trees were uprooted during the storm. The worst affected areas were Narsinghpur, Jharsa Crossing, Sector 29, Sector 38, Sector 50, Rajeev Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Civil Lines, Golf Course Extension Road, Vatika Chowk, Sector 52, and Daulatabad Flyover.

At least 2,500 police officers have been deployed in key areas to control traffic, said Ravinder Kumar Tomar, DCP (traffic). A waterfall was reported on the NH-48 in Narsingpur, near the Signature tower and near the DLF Metro station in Gurugram. Gurugram Traffic Police said their officers were on site to assist with traffic.

Rainfall resulted in several trees being uprooted from the capital and parts of Gurugram remained flooded. Passengers were stranded at IGI airport in Delhi as flights were delayed and diverted due to bad weather. Passengers have been advised to arrive at the airport on time

IMD has issued a warning in some parts of Delhi-NCR as heavy rains and thunderstorms hit the national capital on Monday morning. A large crowd could be seen at Delhi airport after the capital received heavy rains. Flight services were disrupted at Delhi airport. This morning (Monday) morning thunderstorm with lightning and rain over Delhi is the first mid-season hurricane that has occurred since March 1.

The hurricane was reported to have reached a top speed of 70kmph at 7am. The days of typical thunderstorms in Delhi are about 12-14 days between March and May, but this season it is only 4-5 days so far and this has been a dry thunderstorm, “said Dr. RK Jenamani of IMD.
