Gustavo Petro canceled events & said gang planned to kill me

Gustavo Petro, a left-wing candidate in the Colombian presidential election, on Monday canceled events at a coffee shop in the country over what his office said was a plot by a gang to assassinate him.Petro, a former M-19 terrorist and mayor of Bogota, was due to visit the province, including the city of Manzales, on Tuesday and Wednesday, before voting on May 29. The security team received information that a La Cordillera gang was planning an attack, his office said in a statement.

“Based on the work done by the security team, which received information from local sources, the La Cordillera gang was planning to assassinate President Gustavo Petro’s successor,” the statement said. additional evidence. Campaign media officials confirmed the accuracy of the statement. Colombian National Police said later on Monday they had no information about the plot against Peter, adding that he had strong security measures in place.

La Cordillera, which works mainly in the coffee industry, has been blamed by police for the death of a local organizer of anti-government marches that attacked the country last year.

Petro led a referendum last week with 43.6% of the vote in the first round, with his closest rival, Federico Gutierrez, in the middle right, gaining 26.7%. including the redistribution of pension savings.
