Former Indian southpaw player Yuvraj Singh was known for his entertaining style of play. The former cricketer played a key role in the team’s victory in the T20 World Cup in 2007, and the ODI World Cup four years later at home. During his time as an international cricket player, Yuvraj was widely regarded as one of the best athletes in the sport and boasted of numerous other shots – one of them.
However, the former Southpaw player has revealed that he has learned to play with the bowlers quickly since his teenage years, but he was at sea when he faced players like MuttiahMuralitharan.
“From the time I was very young, my dad would prepare me to play on a fast track. He used to throw waterballs at me, water leather balls for a 17-yard wicket. He knew how to play fast bowlers at world level you need to have a heart. He prepared me for this challenge which is why I was able to deal with that kind of speed. Initially, the innings against Australia and South Africa made me very confident.
“Then I went to Sri Lanka in Sharjah with Muralitharan. I was an avid spin bowler but playing world-class spinners was completely different. He is a young boy who was learning about the game, and I could not read him at all, ”Yuvraj said in an interview with Sports18.
The former Indian cricketer then revealed that he had beaten champion Sachin Tendulkar, who asked him to learn the game of sweeping.
“I talked to Sachin about how to deal with these guys, how they play spin bowling? He told me that I had learned to play new shorts. At first I went out trying to play these types of shorts but later I started dominating the spinners, ”said Yuvraj.
The left-handers completed an impressive international career in 2019 with 8,701 runs in 304 ODIs, and 1,177 runs in 58 T20Is. He also took 111 wickets in a five-overs format, while adding 29 T20I dismissals to his name. He also represented India in 40 Tests.
