Dhoni captained for no reason but they made him right? ‘: Yuvraj Singh chooses’ good guy’ to lead India to Tests

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh wants nominees to support Rishabh Pant as India’s captain of tomorrow’s Test. Citing the example of MS Dhoni, Yuvraj said Pant was a ‘good man’ to lead the Indian Test side. Rohit Sharma has been named India’s full-time captain after ViratKohli decided to resign as Test captain earlier this year following a 1-2 defeat in South Africa. But since Rohit, 34, is still young, the chances of him leading in a long-term format are slim.

Yuvraj believes Pant should train as he has leadership qualities and is confident in the XI in red cricket.

“You have to fix someone. As Mahi became captain for no reason but they made him, of course! Then he changed, ”Yuvraj told Sports18’s‘ Home of Heroes ’program. “The goalkeeper is always a very thoughtful person because he always has the best vision on the ground,” added the 2011 ODI World Cup Player of the Year.

Dhoni at 26, was appointed captain of India’s limited-overs when Rahul Dravid resigned following a 2007 ODI World Cup dispute. He was promoted to Test captain a few years later as Anil Kumble announced his retirement.

Yuvraj feels that someone like Pant should be given the required time. Expecting ‘miracles’ right away will not be a good thing.“You pick a young boy who can be the captain of tomorrow, give him time and do not expect surprises in the first six months or a year. I think you should believe in young boys for the job to be done, ”he added.

Yuvraj dismissed critics who questioned Pant’s maturity. “I was not mature at the time, Virat was not mature when he was captain at the time. But he (Pant) is maturing over time, ”saidYuvraj. “I don’t know what the support staff think of it, but I think he’s the right guy to lead the Test team.” Yuvraj revealed that in his interviews with Pant, he often cites the example of Australian legend Adam Gilchrist, who made 17 Test Century hitting number seven. “You already have 400 Test. As for the best wicket-taker, I see Rishabh as a future hero, ”saidYuvraj.

Pant, the current captain of Delhi Capitals, has over 40 cricket scouts and has four hundred in his name. He could have had a few more if he had not been fired in the 90’s five times.
