Israel Intensifies Strikes on Hezbollah Targets Amid Escalating Tensions in Southern Lebanon

Jerusalem: Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has affirmed that Israel will continue its military operations against Hezbollah, following a series of airstrikes late Thursday targeting the group’s rocket launchers in southern Lebanon.

Israeli fighter jets reportedly struck around 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers, targeting approximately 1,000 rocket barrels that were set to launch attacks on Israeli territory, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The air raids are part of Israel’s efforts to degrade Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, which Gallant emphasized will continue as part of Israel’s defense strategy.

Earlier in the week, Israel was accused of launching attacks that destroyed Hezbollah communication equipment, resulting in 37 deaths and 3,000 injuries in Lebanon. The escalation has prompted calls for a ceasefire from British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and concerns from the U.S. about further violence.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Wednesday to ensure the safe return of residents evacuated from Israel’s northern border, where Hezbollah’s rocket fire, in solidarity with Hamas, has forced many to flee. The exchanges of fire between Israel and the Iran-backed group have become a daily occurrence since the October 7 attacks.
