PM Narendra Modi Returns from Productive G7 Summit in Italy Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with World Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed his first foreign visit of his third term on Friday when he returned home after attending the G7 summit in Italy. A few days after he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India, he held talks with several world leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The highlight of his diplomatic relations with European countries was his meeting with US President Joe Biden. He had a very productive day at the G7 summit in Puglia. He interacted with world leaders and discussed various topics. Together, we aim to create impactful solutions that benefit the global community and create a better world for future generations. I am grateful to the Italian people and government for their hospitality,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi briefly met Justin Trudeau amid tensions with Canada over the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year. The Modi-Biden talks come nearly seven months after Washington’s allegations of India’s ties to a conspiracy to kill Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. After the meeting with Biden, Prime Minister Modi wrote in X that India and the United States will work together to promote global prosperity.

He also accepted a meeting with Trudeau. “Meet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 summit,” the social media website said.

Last September, Indo-Canadian relations were strained after Trudeau suggested that Indian agents were “potentially” involved in Nijjar’s killing in British Columbia.

New Delhi has rejected Trudeau’s allegations, calling them “absurd” and “ridiculous.”.

India accuses Canada of being pro-Khalistan and creating criminal elements to achieve political goals.

Foreign Minister Vinay Kwatra said on Wednesday that India’s main problem with Canada remains the political space Ottawa is giving to anti-India elements.Trudeau’s office said the two leaders interacted on the sidelines of a summit on Friday. “The prime minister congratulated Modi on his re-election, and the leaders briefly discussed bilateral relations,” Bloomberg News spokeswoman Ann-Clara Waillancourt said.

Addressing the event earlier in the day, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of ending monopolies in technology, with a special focus on artificial intelligence.

As part of the event, the Prime Minister also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The prime minister’s invitation to the G-7 summit shows India’s growing presence in the West’s plans against China.

Apart from India, the host invited the leaders of 11 developing countries, including those in the Indo-Pacific region.
