New Zealand defeated Uganda by 40 runs in 18.4 overs in Tarouba on Saturday, hoping for their first victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup. They also made history by becoming the second-lowest-ranked team in T20 World Cup history. The bottom group is Uganda (T20 World Cup 2024 vs. West Indies) 39 (39 vs. Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup), once again shared with the Netherlands.
In the first round, he fell prey to Uganda’s usual quality and swing bowling. Trent Boult and Tim Southee led for New Zealand, as the former struck twice with the new ball. Meanwhile, Southee pursued his own goals.
Mitchell Santner was in good form and bowled well in the middle overs, with Lockie Ferguson’s pace causing problems for the batsmen. Uganda failed to convert strikes consistently and looked out of sorts. Rachin Ravindra also bowled and took several wickets. Southee took three wickets, and Santner took two wickets. Only one Ugandan batsman scored double figures in a one-sided inning.After the first inning, Southee said, “This is a tough pitch tonight as the bowling unit is used. In tough conditions, we are used to a lot in T20s. Feel fresh and feel good. It will be good (a win).”
Uganda has qualified for its first T20 World Cup. They fought well against Afghanistan but then lost confidence in the tournament when they lost all their matches to Afghanistan and the West Indies. But they beat Papua New Guinea to get one win and face New Zealand in the final match.
