Arvind Kejriwal Seeks Insulin in Jail; Plea to be Heard Today

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, has filed a petition in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court requesting the provision of insulin from Tihar Jail authorities. The plea is scheduled to be heard at 2 PM today, as reported by our reporter

Mr. Kejriwal, who was arrested last month in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam case, is a Type 2 diabetes patient. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised concerns last night, alleging that despite repeated requests, Mr. Kejriwal has not been provided with insulin. Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, claimed that there is a “conspiracy to kill” Mr. Kejriwal.

This accusation followed a statement by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which opposed a request for a video consultation with Mr. Kejriwal’s regular doctor. The ED argued that Mr. Kejriwal’s health issues, if serious, were exacerbated by his consumption of mangoes, sweets, and tea with sugar – all of which are not recommended for diabetics.

In response, Atishi vehemently defended Mr. Kejriwal, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a plot to harm him while in jail. She highlighted Mr. Kejriwal’s longstanding battle with diabetes and refuted claims that he was consuming sweets inside the jail.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered an investigation into the allegations of Mr. Kejriwal not receiving insulin in Tihar jail.

Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest last month by the ED is linked to his alleged involvement in a liquor policy scam in Delhi. The AAP has dismissed the charges as political vendetta, and Mr. Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court, which is set to reconvene on April 29 to hear the ED’s response.
