Protesting Farmers to Observe ‘Black Friday’ and Plan Tractor March Towards Delhi

In a show of solidarity and protest, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, has announced plans for a ‘Black Friday‘ observance following the tragic death of a farmer at the Khanauri Border crossing in Sangrur district, Punjab. Additionally, the farmers are set to escalate their agitation with a tractor march towards the national capital.

Speaking exclusively to Rakesh Tikait stated, “We will observe a ‘Black Friday’ tomorrow condoling the death of a farmer at the Khanauri Border crossing in Punjab. We held a tractor march yesterday as well.”

Furthermore, Tikait revealed that on February 26, the protesting farmers will embark on a tractor march towards the highways leading to Delhi. Describing it as a one-day event, he outlined plans for nationwide meetings thereafter. Additionally, a significant event is scheduled for March 14 at Ram Leela Ground in Delhi, where participants will gather without tractors.

Tikait, who spearheaded the farmers’ protest that led to the repeal of the contentious farm laws in 2020-21, expressed solidarity with the ongoing demonstrations and criticized the government’s use of paramilitary forces against protestors.

Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda acknowledged the need for further efforts to reach a consensus, affirming the government’s commitment to addressing farmers’ concerns.

The farmers’ agitation, which has been ongoing at the Shambhu border near Ambala, has garnered attention for its persistence despite clashes resulting in injuries to both farmers and police personnel.
