Dense Fog Disrupts Travel in Delhi-NCR for Third Consecutive Day

Delhi and its neighboring National Capital Region (NCR) continue to grapple with dense fog for the third consecutive day, severely impacting visibility and disrupting road, rail, and air travel services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories cautioning travelers and predicting light rainfall in the region due to a western disturbance.

Flight Delays and Advisory

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi recorded zero visibility at night, leading to flight delays. The airport issued an advisory, informing passengers about potential disruptions and urging them to contact airlines for updated flight information. Flights not equipped with CAT III landing systems may be affected by the dense fog conditions.

CAT III Instrument

CAT III is an anti-fog landing system that enables planes to land in low-visibility conditions, with a minimum visibility of up to 50 meters. Its absence can lead to disruptions in flight operations during dense fog.

Rail Services Affected

Several trains departing from or heading towards Delhi faced delays due to the dense fog. Similar disruptions were witnessed on Tuesday, affecting numerous Delhi-bound trains and flights.

The IMD predicts light rainfall in Delhi over the next two days due to a western disturbance in the Himalayan region. Dense to very dense fog is expected in the mornings, followed by light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds in the evening or night.

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to reach up to 19 degrees Celsius. Cold day conditions were observed in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Regional Impact

Apart from Delhi-NCR, dense to very dense fog prevailed in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Cold day conditions were reported in some areas, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. As dense fog persists, travelers are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution while commuting.
