All 41 Trapped Workers Rescued from Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand After 17 Days

In a multi-agency rescue operation that spanned nearly 17 days, all 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel have been successfully rescued. The workers were welcomed by Union Minister V K Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as they emerged from the tunnel through a steel chute that lined a 60-meter escape passage. The rescue involved a group of rat-hole mining experts who dug through the last stretch of rubble, allowing the workers to exit.
The workers were transported to a community health center in ambulances, with a specially arranged 41-bed ward to accommodate them. The rescue operation began after a portion of the tunnel collapsed on November 12, blocking the exit for the workers inside. Over the course of the rescue, food, medicines, and other essentials were sent to the trapped workers through a six-inch pipe pushed through the rubble of the collapsed portion. The successful rescue operation concluded with cheers and relief as the workers were reunited with their families.
