The 42nd edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) is set to kick off at the revamped Pragati Maidan complex in Delhi, bringing together exhibitors, businesses, and visitors. As the event promises economic opportunities and cultural showcases, a pre-event traffic advisory warns of potential congestion.
The IITF: A Showcase of Trade and Culture
IITF, organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), serves as a platform for businesses to exhibit their products, connect with potential partners, and explore trade opportunities. This year’s theme, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – United by Trade,” underscores the importance of global cooperation in fostering economic growth.
Key Participants and Exhibitors
With 482 private exhibitors and 3,000 stalls from government entities, IITF 2023 aims to host at least 3,500 exhibitors, making it the largest trade fair since its inception in 1980. The event will feature a diverse array of participants, including focus states such as Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. Additionally, 13 foreign countries, including Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Iran, will showcase their products.
Traffic Advisory and Logistics
The pre-event traffic advisory issued by Delhi traffic police emphasizes the potential congestion on roads leading to Pragati Maidan, cautioning visitors to plan accordingly. The expectation of over 40,000 people on weekdays and 100,000-200,000 on weekends necessitates careful traffic management. The advisory suggests using public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, to alleviate congestion.
To streamline entry and prevent overcrowding, ITPO has implemented specific entry points and ticketing strategies. Tickets, priced at ₹80 for adults on weekdays and ₹150 on weekends, can be purchased online or at designated Metro stations. With 55 major Metro stations selling entry tickets, excluding the Supreme Court Metro station, ITPO aims to facilitate a smooth entry process for visitors.
Apart from being a hub for business interactions, IITF promises a cultural extravaganza. Amphitheatres and musical fountains in the revamped complex will host regional art forms, state performances, and cultural evenings featuring renowned artists like Amjad Ali Khan and Jayaprabha Menon.
