Enhancing Disaster Response: Jio Showcases Emergency Response Communication System at IMC

In times of natural disasters, effective communication is vital for swift and coordinated rescue operations. Unfortunately, communication systems often fail during such emergencies, leading to delays and, in some cases, tragic consequences. Recognizing the critical need for efficient communication during disasters, Jio has introduced its Emergency Response Communication System at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) in Pragati Maidan, Delhi.

Jio’s Lifesaving Technology

Jio’s Emergency response Communication System promises to be a lifeline during natural disasters, ensuring better communication, coordination, and command. This system acts as essential support for National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other relief teams, significantly improving the efficiency and timeliness of rescue operations.

Overcoming Communication Challenges

During natural disasters, rescue operations often suffer due to the breakdown of local communication systems. Every second wasted can be a matter of life and death. To address these challenges, Jio’s Emergency Response Communication System uses satellite connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted communication under any circumstances.

This system, powered by Jio’s True 5G technology, strengthens communication at multiple levels. It features a ‘communication tower on wheels’ connected to a satellite. This mobile tower can be deployed anywhere, ensuring constant and reliable communication even when local infrastructure fails.

For the support teams at the command center, Jio has developed a powerful app called ‘XR Companion.’ This app keeps teams connected in real-time, enabling work distribution monitoring, two-way audio and video calls, emergency ambulance requests, team movement tracking, and progress reporting. The app can connect around 20 teams simultaneously, with the flexibility to expand as needed.

Drones for Assessing Disaster Areas

Jio’s Emergency Response Communication System includes 5G-connected drones that provide remote assessment of damage in hard-to-reach areas. Relief officers and NDRF personnel can monitor affected regions using these drones.

Aid workers will use voice-activated 5G-connected devices mounted on helmets. These devices are equipped with cameras, flashlights, and laser beams to provide assistance rapidly. Network slicing ensures uninterrupted communication, even in disaster-stricken areas.

During a disaster, Jio establishes a dedicated and highly secure communication lane through network slicing on the digital Communication Highway. This approach ensures that critical disaster-related communication needs are met without interruption.

Jio has developed this Emergency Response Communication System in collaboration with SES, making it a valuable tool for saving lives during disasters, no matter how severe the situation.
