Saira wrote: “Rain to Spain! As a seven-year-old girl at school in London, we all solemnly sang this line in chorus with my friends! Heaven knows why but that was so common with the erratic English weather… you never know when the sun is shining and then the rain. This was a joint singing with us children.”

“As for my family here in Mumbai and later when I married Dilip Sahib… We all loved the rain. The first shower was always a celebration and we each rushed to our garden terraces to soak up the first downpour of the season and we placed huge dish barrels to collect the clean pristine water! Now I am told that there is concern about drinking rainwater because new recent studies show that there are plastic pollutants and bacterial parasites in the water that can make you sick,” she added.

The senior actor went on to talk about how much Dilip Kumar loved the rain. He actually proposed to her on a rainy night. She shared, “Sahib loved rain and if he was on a date outside the house and it was the first shower… he would immediately call me with joy, ‘Saira, it’s raining!’ In fact, many years ago, as we walked past Juhu Beach on a quiet, wonderful night, the rain suddenly came down and he protectively took off his jacket and threw it around my shoulders…that was the magical night when we were sitting in his car and he asked me…’Will you marry me?'” They were married on October 11, 1966.

She also regaled fans with more anecdotes about Dilip Kumar. “In later years he happily bought a beautiful hilltop land in Maharashtra… Sahib was always a farmer at heart, the proud son of a highly respected Pathan fruit merchant in Peshawar, we walked for miles in the rain over stony and green earth equipped with our umbrellas protectively dressed in our macintoshes, picking up shiny grazed pebbles and throwing them as far as we could in competition with each other… of course, Sahib always won… I always ran and collected these stones… and I still fly and cherish every stone that walked down the Saira.”

Saira’s post made her fans nostalgic. Dilip Kumar died in Mumbai on 7 July 2021 at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness.
