Steel Sector: India pitches for cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council

Inaugurated by the Union Minister of Steel, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, the ‘Steel Week’ kicks off at the Indian Pavilion at EXPO2020 Dubai, where India is showcasing the Indian steel sector so as to encourage its trade relations with the UAE and also for building a collection of opportunities for India’s steel sector.

As a part of the Steel Week, personalized meetings have been held with the leading players in steel production and logistics industries that are based in the UAE. The flagship scheme of the Indian Government, that is, Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steel, its’ features and focus areas were accentuated during the meetings.

The objective of the meetings was to further stimulate investments in India and explore the possibilities for growing the bilateral trades in steel. The meetings were undertaken with the leading companies in the UAE.

An interactive meeting was held on the ‘Steel Usage in UAE and Collaboration Opportunities for Indian Steel Sector’, between the key steel producing companies from India and the steel utilizing companies in the UAE.

Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, the Union Minister of Steel urged the companies to take advantage of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and look for ways to set foot in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region making UAE as the base of operations. He assured complete support by the Government of India and mentioned that steel, which is a base for most of the infrastructure related projects, will be critical to achieving the ‘Gati Shakti’ Master Plan and other key projects.

The top steel producing companies of the Indian Steel Sector, including Steel Authority of India (SAIL), JSW Steel, Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS), Tata Steel and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) presented their views on steel manufacturing, product portfolio, production capacities, sector coverage, and key areas of expertise.

Later on, the delegation led by the Union Steel Minister visited the steel processing facilities of M/s Conares Steel and met the representatives from key steel consumers and logistics companies in the UAE. The Steel Week at India Pavilion will conclude on the 17th of March 2022.
