NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 astronauts prepare to relocate the dragon port to the ISS

Crew members of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS) prepare to relocate the port of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft to make room for the upcoming SpaceX cargo spacecraft.

On Saturday, May 6, NASA flight engineers Steve Bowen and Woody Hoburg, United Arab Emirates astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, and Roskosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev will undock from the station’s Harmony Module spaceport at 7:10 a.m. and then redock at the forward Harmony port at 7:53 a.m. morning.

The relocation, which will be the third port relocation of a crewed Dragon spacecraft, will free up the space-oriented Harmony port for the docking of the next Dragon cargo spacecraft scheduled for launch in June.

According to NASA, the zenith port on Harmony allows the Canadarm2 robotic arm to more easily access the International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (IROSA). This will be especially useful when installing the IROSAs, which are due to arrive on SpaceX’s 28th commercial resupply mission and will require a series of spacewalks to be properly installed. Dragon repositioning activities will be reported live on the app and on NASA’s website.
