Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launches two cooperative department for improvement of rural economy

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday launched two initiatives of the cooperative department to improve the efficiency of cooperative societies and meet the demands of the rural economy.

The initiatives the introduction of a diploma course in cooperative management and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the cooperative and tribal affairs departments will strengthen the cooperative sector and transform the lives of the tribal community, he said.

Improvement of rural economy

“The Prime Minister’s vision of ‘sahkar se samriddhi’ will lead social and economic transformation and provide a vital boost to the growth of the agriculture sector. The new initiatives are aimed at improving the efficiency of cooperatives and meeting the requirements of the rural economy,” the governor said.

The introduction of Diploma in Co-operative Management will provide an opportunity to junior officers, members of co-operative societies and officials of other affiliated departments to acquire necessary skills for managing co-operative business and facilitate the process of human resource development in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

He also highlighted the positive impact of the convergence of cooperative and tribal department schemes to achieve the twin goals of equitable and sustainable rural development.

“The MoU between the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs will ensure that the Van Dhan Vikas Kendras get the benefits of various schemes and enable the economic development and prosperity of the tribal population,” he said.

“We have taken several steps to ensure effective implementation of rural development programs on the ground and strengthen targeted sections. Availability of resources for the growth of cooperatives is another area where steps have been taken to ensure access to credit for people and support services for equitable distribution of benefits,” he said.

Sinha emphasized the expansion of the cooperative sector and linking more farmers with primary agricultural cooperatives.
