Amit Shah says Rahul Gandhi that “Democracy is not a risk but your family” at inauguration of the Kaushambi Mahotsav

Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks in the UK, saying it is not democracy that is at risk but “your family” and the idea of dynasty politics.

In a public meeting after the inauguration of the Kaushambi Mahotsav, Shah accused the Congress of besetting Indian democracy with three “naasuronas” (sores) – casteism, dynasty politics and appeasement. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi defeated all three and that is why “you are scared,” he added.

“They say that democracy is in danger, fraternal democracy is not in danger, your family is in danger. It is not the idea of India that is in danger, it is the idea of dynasty, your politics of ‘parivarvad’ (dynasty) that is in danger. It is not the democracy of India but the autocracy of your family that is under threat,” said a senior BJP leader.

Amit Shah brutal attack on Rahul Gandhi

During a visit to the UK last month, Gandhi claimed that the structures of Indian democracy were under “brutal attack” and that a large-scale attack was underway on the country’s institutions. His remarks sparked a war of words between the BJP and the Congress.

The BJP accused Gandhi of “insulting” the country on foreign soil and demanded an apology, but the Congress leader said his stance that Indian democracy was under attack “was known to all”.

Shah also hit out at the Congress party for allegedly not allowing Parliament to function. “Parliament was adjourned yesterday. Never in the history of independent India has a budget meeting ended without a meeting and discussion… What was the reason? Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP,” the Union minister said.

On March 18, a court in Surat sentenced Gandhi to two years in prison in a criminal defamation case filed over his remark against people with the surname “Modi”, but gave him 30 days to appeal to a higher court. A day later, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification suspending his membership in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress accused the BJP of indulging in “vindictive politics”, but the ruling party said it was the law.

Addressing a rally in Kaushambi on Friday, Shah asked, “Who brought the law? He also said that Gandhi was not the only leader whose membership “lapsed” after being convicted by the court. “So far membership of 17 MLAs including Rahul Gandhi has been cancelled. The Union minister asked Gandhi to “follow the law” and secure an acquittal in a higher court.

“My friends, I would like to tell Rahul Gandhi that he should follow the law which is the ‘dharma’ of every citizen. You were an MP. You could challenge the sentence and fight it in court. You sacrificed Parliament’s time. The people of this country will never forgive you,” Shah said.

Shah urged people to vote for the BJP again in the 2024 general elections and also criticized the Congress, SP and BSP for allegedly delaying the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

In 2014, the people of UP once again reposed their faith in PM Modi. “In 2017, when I was the BJP chief, the BJP won a record 325 seats (in UP) and Modi made Yogi ji the chief minister. In 2019, SP, BSP and Congress united but all were defeated and Modi ji became the Prime Minister again. Then you made Yogi ji the Chief Minister again in 2022 (Assembly elections),” Shah said.

“Modi made it a prosperous country and strengthened the pride of the country. And Congress people say “Modi teri kabra khudegi” (Modi, your grave will be dug). I want to tell these Congress people that whether it is Sonia ji, Rahul ji or anyone else, whenever there is abuse on Modi ji, the public has blossomed a lotus in the mire of this abuse in a strong way,” Shah stated.

“Rahul Baba, this time too the Modi ji government will be formed with ‘300 paar’ (over 300 Lok Sabha seats),” he declared.

Meanwhile, Apna Dal (Kamerwadi) MLA from Sirathu constituency (in Kaushambi district) Pallavi Patel claimed that she was put under house arrest in her party office and was not allowed to welcome the Home Minister. However, Additional Superintendent of Police Samar Bahadur dismissed Patel’s claims.
