BTS: Jimin Tweets recovering well from appendicitis surgery and Covid-19 infection

Jimin, who was recently hospitalised after suffering abdominal pain and a sore throat due to Covid-19 infection, took to Twitter and updated his fans, reassuring them of his recovering health condition.

Park Ji-min, mononymously known as Jimin, a member of the South Korean BTS group, had undergone surgery for acute appendicitis on January 31. At that time it was revealed that he had tested positive for Covid-19 too.

“Sorry for making you worry,” Jimin wrote in a Twitter post, in Korean, which was translated to English by one of his fans. “However, I think I’ll be able to get discharged soon! I am recovering well and I am making sure to take care and eat all 3 meals. Please just wait a little bit. I’ll recover quickly and leave!” the tweet further read.

After RM (Kim Nam-joon), Jin (Kim Seok-jin) and Suga (Min Yoon-gi) testing positive for Covid-19 infection in December last year, Jimin is believed to be the fourth member of the BTS group to have contracted the infection. Big Hit Music, the South Korean Entertainment Company had issued two statements earlier this month and announced that the three, namely RM, Jin and Suga had completed their quarantine period.

The statement dated January 7 had said that RM and Jin, who had been receiving treatments from home had made full recoveries from the Covid-19 infection and the quarantine had been completed on the noon of January 4. The statement further said that RM and Jin, who were receiving treatments from December 25, 2021, were perfectly fit and were able to return to their daily activities. It added that none of the two members exhibited any particular symptoms during the period of their home quarantine. Jin had reported a mild fever when he had just begun his home treatment but had made a full recovery since then.

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band that was formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under the ‘Big Hit Entertainment’ label. The band consists of seven members, namely – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The team writes and produces much of its content. They originally started as a hip hop group, but their musical style evolved later on to include a wide range of genres. Their lyrics often focus on personal and social issues, they touch on the themes of mental health, the troubles of the school-age youth and the journey towards loving oneself, and individualism. Their workpieces often reference literature and psychological concepts and include an alternative universe storyline.

After selling over 32 million albums on the “Gaon Music Chart”, BTS today is the best-selling artist in South Korean history and holds the best-selling album in South Korea with “Map of the Soul: 7”. They are the first Asian and non-English speaking artists to be named the “International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) Global Recording Artist of the Year (2020)”, to chart on Billboard’s Top Touring Artists of the 2010s (placed at number 45), and to sell out Wembley Stadium and Rose Bowl Stadium seats (Love Yourself World Tour in 2019).

BTS has also appeared on the TIME magazine’s lists of the 25 most influential people on the internet (2017–2019) and the 100 most influential people in the world (2019). They also featured on Time’s international cover as “Next Generation Leaders” and dubbed as “Princes of Pop”.
