On 30 November 2022, the Ministry of Defense organized a meeting with the Indian defense industry under the auspices of the Society of Defense Manufacturers of India to explore opportunities for gainful employment of former agniveers under the corporate recruitment plan. Defense Minister Shri Giridhar Aramane presided over the meeting. Senior executives from major Indian defense companies including L&T, Adani Defense Ltd, Tata Advanced System Ltd, Ashok Leyland and others participated in the discussion.
The Defense Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to profitably utilize the expertise of Agniveers after their stint in the armed forces to employ highly dedicated and disciplined youth in various nation building sectors. The skills acquired by Agniveers during their stint in the armed forces will help build a highly competent and professional workforce that will be readily available for fruitful and productive engagement in industry.
The senior executives of the companies expressed their unwavering support and commitment to the endeavor and expressed their enthusiasm for the deployment of ex-Agniveers once the first batch completes their tenure in the armed forces. They assured that appropriate provision will be made in their recruitment policy for reservations for Agniveers based on available skill sets. Certain suggestions were also considered to link the skills acquired by Agniveers with the requirements of industry. The Defense Minister, while acknowledging the encouraging response from the participants, urged Indian defense manufacturers to act on their commitment and make policy announcements under Corporate Recruitment plans at the earliest.
