As Russia’s offensive in Ukraine intensified, India issued an advisory on Wednesday asking all its citizens to avoid traveling to the war-torn country. Citing the “deteriorating security situation” in the country, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv advised all Indian nationals to travel to Ukraine and not leave as soon as possible. “Indian citizens, including students currently in Ukraine, are advised to leave Ukraine as soon as possible by available means,” the Indian Embassy in Ukraine said in a statement posted on its Twitter account. This happened on a day when explosions were heard in the capital city of Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko also said several Russian missiles had been shot down over the capital.
“Air defense shot down several Russian missiles over Kyiv. Stay in shelters!” Klitschko wrote on the social network. Fatal Russian strikes recently targeted energy facilities in the Kyiv region. In the western region of the country, a Russian missile hit a thermal power plant in the city of Burštýn on Wednesday, the governor of the region said. At 2:20 p.m. Kyiv time (11:20 GMT) on Monday, at least two explosions followed Russian strikes with Iranian-made drones targeting energy infrastructure that killed at least five people in the city.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he fully supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark to Russian President Vladimir Putin that this was “not an era of war” and stressed that any efforts to create the conditions for a solution to the Ukraine conflict, the UN Charter and international law, would be “very welcome”.
