Total coal production in India increased by 12.01 percent to 57.93 million tonnes

Total coal production in India increased by 12.01 percent to 57.93 million tonnes (MT) from 51.72 MT during September 2022 compared to September 2021. According to provisional statistics of the Ministry of Coal during September 2022 CIL, SCCL and Own Mines / Others registered growth of 12.35%, 8.43% and 12.37% respectively by producing 45.67 MT, 4.93 MT and 7.33 MT respectively.

Of the top 37 mines, 25 mines had production levels of more than 100 percent, and another five mines were between 80 and 100 percent during September. At the same time, coal shipment increased by 1.95 percent to 61.18 million tonnes (MT) from 60.02 MT in September 2022 compared to the same period last year. During September 2022, CIL, SCCL and Captive/Other mines saw an increase of 1.03, 4.13 and 6.84 percent respectively by dispatching 48.88 MT, 4.77 MT and 7.53 MT respectively.

Shipments by power companies increased to 51.71 MT during September 2022 compared to 50.16 MT in the same period last year. Coal-fired electricity generation saw a 13.40% year-over-year increase in September 22. Total electricity generation in September 22 was 13.77% higher than electricity generation in September 2021.
