Fourth consignment of 2,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat consignment dispatched to Afghanistan

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the fourth consignment to Afganistan, containing 2,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat has been dispatched through the Attari-Wagah border on Tuesday.

The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that till now a total of 8,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat has been sent to Afghanistan as part of the humanitarian aid.

“Our partnership continues. Dispatched today the fourth convoy of humanitarian assistance consisting 2,000 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan. A total of 8,000 MTs sent as on date. @WFP_Afghanistan is partnering with us for the internal distribution of wheat within Afghanistan,” Bagchi’s Tweet read.

India had sent the first convoy of 2,500 Metric Tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan, in humanitarian aid, through Pakistan on the 22nd of February, and the consignment had reached the Afghan city of Jalalabad on the 26th of February. Fifty trucks were employed to deliver the consignment.

Earlier this month, India sent the second shipment of 2,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan. The second consignment of India’s humanitarian assistance carrying 2,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat has left Attari, Amritsar on March 3 for Jalalabad city of Afghanistan, the MEA had said.

Furthermore, the third consignment with a load of 2,000 Metric Tonnes of wheat was sent by India to Afghanistan with the help of 40 trucks through the Attari-Wagah border on the 8th of this month.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had flagged off the first such consignment from Amritsar.
