Vidya Balan reveals that Shilpa Shetty, Malaika Arora were her childhood neighbors

Vidya Balan revealed that she goes a long way back with fellow Bollywood actors Shilpa Shetty and Malaika Arora. While Shilpa was her senior in school, Malaika was her neighbor in the Chembur locality where she spent her childhood. Vidya Balan is a Tamilian who hails from Kerala and was born and brought up in Chembur, Mumbai. She married film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur in 2012 and then moved to Bandra.

Shilpa taught Vidya how to dribble

In an interview with YouTube channel CurlyTales, Vidya said, “Shilpa was my senior by three years, I think. She was always hot. She was also a basketball player. I remember one day my mom decided I should play basketball. At 6 in the morning I left to play basketball. And there have already been whispers that Shilpa might join films and such. And I remember she was so sweet. I will never forget her teaching me how to dribble a ball. And I thought, ‘Abhi toh mujhe aa gaya sab kuchh’ (Now I have learned everything there is). I told mom, ‘Maine seekh liya. Kal se nahi jeena hai. Subah uth ke nahi jana hai’ (I have learned everything. I don’t need to get up in the morning and go at it again).”

Malaika was also “hot”

“Malaika Arora was also there. She was from another school. But I remember her walking the lane at a certain time because of the French class that was on my lane. And all the boys would be sitting at that time waiting for Malaika to pass. Chembur alone produced too many hot peppers. What to do (laughs),” said Vidya in the same interview.

Vidya’s new movie

Vidya’s latest film Neeyat is a murder mystery directed by Anu Menon, who earlier worked with the actor on the biopic on math genius Shakuntala Devi. Neeyat sees Vidya playing detective and solving a high-profile murder in an Agatha Christie-esque isolated mansion. The film was released on 7 July and opened to just over ₹1 million at the box office.
