On Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs in India emphasized the significance of taking inputs on security matters from the United States seriously, asserting that they have direct implications on India’s national security concerns. The statement came in response to a report by the Financial Times, which claimed that the US had foiled an attempt to assassinate Sikh extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil.
MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi stated that, during recent discussions on India-US security cooperation, the US shared inputs related to the nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists, and others. He acknowledged that these inputs were a cause for concern for both nations, prompting them to decide on necessary follow-up actions.
Bagchi affirmed that India considers such inputs seriously, as they directly impact the country’s national security interests. Relevant departments are already examining the issues in the context of the US inputs, he added.
