Bhopal, India – Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has expressed her hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will provide a “positive signal” regarding the inclusion of a quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) within the recently passed women’s reservation bill. This statement comes ahead of PM Modi’s scheduled visit to Bhopal.
Uma Bharti had previously voiced her disappointment that the constitutional amendment bill, which provides 33 percent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures, did not include provisions for OBC reservation.
In a social media post, Bharti stated, “Prime Minister is welcomed in the land of Bhopal. He is the messiah of the poor and backward, I am sure he will give a positive signal on OBC reservation for women.”
While expressing her satisfaction that the women’s reservation bill was introduced in Parliament, Bharti emphasized her disappointment over the absence of OBC reservations.
Bharti, a senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, had previously denied quitting politics but mentioned taking a break from electoral contests. She has been actively voicing her concerns on various issues and has been at the forefront of advocating for a stringent liquor policy in Madhya Pradesh.
Elections are due in Madhya Pradesh later this year, and Bharti’s statements and expectations reflect the evolving political dynamics within the state and the BJP.
