An earthquake rescue team sent by the Chinese government arrived at Turkey’s Adana airport early Wednesday, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Wednesday. According to CCTV, the 82-member team brought 20 tons of medical and other rescue supplies and equipment, as well as four search and rescue dogs.
The team will work with the local government, the Turkish embassy, the United Nations and other agencies on missions, including setting up a temporary command, conducting search and rescue personnel and providing medical assistance, CCTV said.
Separately, civil society rescue teams of at least 52 members from several provinces in China, including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Guangdong, are heading to earthquake-affected areas in Turkey to carry out rescue work, CCTV said.
China has already pledged to provide the first tranche of 40 million yuan ($5.9 million) in emergency aid to Turkey. The death toll from a devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria jumped to more than 7,800 on Tuesday.
