Toyota Motor will reduce its global production system by about 100,000 cars to about 850,000 in June due to a shortage of semiconductors, it said on Tuesday. The company did not change its estimated production capacity of 9.7 million vehicles worldwide by March 2023.
The automaker also announced the suspension of the domestic factory due to a shortage of goods due to the closure of Covid-19 in Shanghai. The additional suspension will be for five days between Wednesday and June 3, which will affect 16 lines in 10 industries in May and June in total.
It plans to produce about 850,000 vehicles worldwide per month on average from June to August, meaning adding to the shortage of chips and the Covid-19 outbreak and other factors “makes it difficult to look forward.”
