Tata Group-owned airline Air India today said it will invest $400 million to refurbish the cabin interiors of all its existing wide-body aircraft, including 27 Boeing B787-8s and 13 B777s. The renovation will see a complete redesign of the existing cabin interiors, including the addition of latest-generation seats and best-in-class in-flight entertainment across all classes, Air India said in a statement. The revamp will include the introduction of a premium economy cabin, the airline added. The airline said it had hired London-based product design firms JPA Design and Trendworks to help with the cabin interior design elements of the refurbishment programme.
On Monday, Air India said it is leasing six Boeing B777 wide-body aircraft to expand its existing fleet, which will be on top of the 30 aircraft lease announced earlier this year. These aircraft are expected to enter service in the first half of 2023, he added. Air India’s B777-300 ER will have a four-class configuration – first, business, premium economy and economy – and will be deployed to connect the country’s metros with multiple international destinations, the airline said.”Growing our network is an essential part of Air India’s Vihaan.AI transformation journey and we remain committed to increasing connectivity and flight frequency both domestically and internationally,” said Campbell Wilson, Managing Director and CEO, Air India.
