In a display of sheer dominance, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scripted history during their IPL 2024 clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC), setting multiple records en route to a resounding victory.
Led by their explosive opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH unleashed a relentless onslaught on the DC bowlers from the outset. The pair stamped their authority with a record-breaking performance in the powerplay, amassing an astonishing 125 runs, setting a new benchmark for the highest-ever powerplay total in IPL history.
Travis Head, in particular, showcased his batting prowess with a scintillating knock of 89 runs off just 32 balls, including 11 fours and six sixes. His blitzkrieg not only propelled SRH to a monumental score but also etched his name in the record books for achieving the highest powerplay score by a single player for SRH in the IPL.
Abhishek Sharma provided ample support to Head’s onslaught, contributing a quickfire 46 runs off 12 balls, as the duo laid the foundation for SRH’s imposing total of 266/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
In addition to their exploits in the powerplay, SRH reached several other milestones throughout their innings. They registered the fastest team hundred in IPL history, reaching the 100-run mark in just five overs. Moreover, their relentless assault saw them reach the 200-run mark in the 14th over, marking the third-fastest instance of a team reaching 200 runs in IPL history.
The onslaught didn’t stop there, as SRH unleashed a barrage of sixes, equaling their own record for the joint most sixes in an IPL innings with a staggering total of 22 maximums.
Despite DC’s efforts to contain the onslaught, spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive spell of 4/55, they were unable to stem the flow of runs as SRH posted the fourth-highest total in IPL history.
With this emphatic victory, SRH not only asserted their dominance in the IPL but also signaled their intent to challenge for the title with their formidable batting prowess.
