The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed the separation of its SpaDeX satellites on Thursday. This achievement will help India in its future space missions, including Chandrayaan-4 Gaganyaan, building a space station, and even landing an astronaut on the Moon.
ISRO shared two videos on X, showing the moment when the satellites undocked in space. “SpaDeX undocking captured from both SDX-1 and SDX-2!” the agency wrote, celebrating the milestone.
Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, praised the achievement, calling it an “unbelievable de-docking.” He said this success will help India smoothly carry out its ambitious space projects. “Congrats team ISRO. And heartening for every Indian,” he added.
What is the SpaDeX Mission?
The SpaDeX (Space Docking Experiment) mission was launched on December 30, 2024, from Sriharikota. It involved two satellites, SDX-01 and SDX-02, each weighing 220 kg. ISRO successfully docked them on January 16, 2025. With this, India became the fourth country, after Russia, the US, and China, to achieve this space docking milestone.
The latest successful undocking marks a major step toward India’s goal of advanced space exploration.
