The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to make history with its first mission to Venus scheduled for launch in March 2028. The Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM), also known as Shukrayaan-1, will be India’s maiden venture to explore Earth’s mysterious twin.
Set to launch on March 29, 2028, aboard ISRO’s powerful LVM-3 rocket, the spacecraft will embark on a 112-day journey to Venus, reaching its destination by July 19, 2028. Shukrayaan-1 will carry state-of-the-art instruments, including radar, infrared, and ultraviolet cameras, to study Venus’s dense atmosphere, surface features, and potential volcanic activity.
This collaborative mission, with contributions from countries like Russia, Sweden, France, and Germany, will help scientists explore Venus’s climate and geological mysteries. Sweden’s Institute of Space Physics will provide the Venusian Neutrals Analyzer (VNA) to study how solar particles interact with the planet’s atmosphere.
With a budget of ₹1,236 crore (approximately $150 million), the mission marks another significant step for India’s interplanetary exploration program and is expected to provide valuable insights into the secrets of Venus.
