Sports: Ex-Cricketer Virendra Sehwag hails 23-year-old star’s India selection

BCCI on Sunday selected an 18-member team to play Team India in the T20I match at home – a five-match T20I series against South Africa starting on June 9. The announcement marked the return of the nominees and two non-playing players were rewarded for their outstanding performance in the ongoing 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). And former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was full of praise for one of the newborns in the Indian team.

Sehwag commended the selection of Arshdeep Singh, who performed well for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022, picking 10 wickets in 14 matches. What made him stand out during the season was his throwing in death overs where he came in at just 7.91 runs, a very good economic level with a pacer (minimum of 60 balls) behind Jasprit Bumrah (7.66) and four picks. and wickets.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag acknowledged the difficult role he has been given by the PBKS team this season and said he has seen former cricketers Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra do just that during his playing days.

Arshdeep impressed me because he threw two of the last three overs to the Punjab Kings. He may not have that many wickets, but his economic status is very good. He throws one ball for a new ball and two for slog overs. I have only seen Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra do that in my time. Now, its Arshdeep and Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar also. It is a very difficult task to throw in slog overs, ”he said.

Arshdeep was one of the few undefeated players retained by the franchise before the start of the IPL 2022 season. Last year, he scored 18 wickets for the Punjab Kings in 12 games with an average of 19, an economic level of 8.27 and wicket regularly at 13.77 beats.
