The Saras Food Festival at Baba Kharak Singh Marg is more than just a gastronomic event it’s a vibrant celebration of India’s culinary heritage and a tribute to the indomitable spirit of women who keep these traditions alive. Organized by the Ministry of Rural Development, this unique festival runs until December 17 and has transformed Connaught Place into a bustling food hub, offering over 300 authentic dishes from 25 states.

From the rustic charm of Rajasthan’s Dal Baati Churma to the exquisite flavors of Bengal’s Hilsa, the festival offers an immersive experience of India’s regional cuisines. Visitors are savoring Telangana’s Dum Biryani, Odisha’s Mughlai Chicken, Punjab’s Sarson Ka Saag with Makki Ki Roti, and many more delectable dishes that showcase the country’s rich culinary diversity.

But the Saras Food Festival is not just about food. At its heart is a powerful mission: empowering women. Nearly 150 women entrepreneurs and members of self-help groups from across India are presenting their culinary expertise, turning the event into a platform for showcasing their talent and entrepreneurial spirit.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan graced the festival on Wednesday, adding to its vibrant atmosphere. Speaking to the audience, he highlighted the festival’s cultural significance and its focus on women empowerment. “The Saras Mela has become a symbol of cultural unity. The aroma of traditional dishes prepared by our sisters is drawing people from all over Delhi,” he said.

Chouhan also shared insights from his tenure as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, where he launched the Didi Cafe initiative to promote women’s livelihoods. “Even today, Didi Cafes are run by the women of the Ajeevika Mission. These women pour their dedication and hard work into their ventures, proving their mettle in every responsibility they take on,” he noted.

As the festival continues to draw crowds, it has become clear that the Saras Food Festival is more than just a celebration of food. It is a testament to resilience, culture, and the strength of women entrepreneurs who are driving change in their communities.
