United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba, on the phone this Friday, informing him of recent talks with Russian authorities. The head of the Foreign Ministry thus informed Kuleba about the recent exchange of views with Russian Foreign Minister Segey Lavrov, with whom Blinken spoke by phone on Tuesday.
The conversation reaffirmed “the willingness to address mutual security concerns, the unwavering support of the United States for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement. In addition, Washington stressed that its “clear will” together with its allied countries “will impose swift and severe consequences on Russia” in case Moscow decides to launch an offensive to “increase tensions in the region.” Thus, Blinken and Kuleba reaffirmed the measures agreed between the United States and Ukraine to “encourage Moscow to seek diplomacy instead of war” and thereby achieve “guarantees of security and stability” in Eastern Europe.
