India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with grandeur in New Delhi, showcasing cultural diversity, military strength, and innovative additions to the annual parade. Here are the four key highlights:
1. President Murmu Arrives in a Traditional Buggy
President Droupadi Murmu, alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, made a grand entrance in a traditional, gold-plated horse-drawn buggy. The buggy, adorned with the national emblem, was used for Republic Day until 1984 before being replaced by black limousines. It returned in 2024, reviving its historic charm.
2. Stunning Tableaux Display
This year’s tableaux celebrated India’s cultural and natural heritage:
•Uttar Pradesh: Depicted the Kumbh Mela with sadhus and the legendary Samudra Manthan.
•Madhya Pradesh: Highlighted cheetahs, representing the species’ revival in Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary.
•Andhra Pradesh: Showcased Etikoppaka Bommalu, eco-friendly wooden toys unique to the state.
3. First-Ever Tri-Services Tableau
For the first time, a Tri-services tableau represented India’s armed forces under the theme Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat (Strong and Secure India). It demonstrated a synchronised battlefield scenario involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, featuring indigenous equipment like the Arjun Main Battle Tank, Tejas MKII fighter jet, and INS Visakhapatnam.
4. Debut of the Indonesian Contingent
This year marked the first participation of an Indonesian contingent in the parade. The 352-member marching and band unit added a touch of international camaraderie, complementing the parade’s celebration of India-Indonesia ties.
The parade also highlighted the government’s commitment to tradition, innovation, and strengthening international relationships, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
