Shri Rajnath Singh has invited Vietnam to be part of the transformation of the Indian defense industry through improved cooperation. He asserted that the Indian defense industry had significantly increased its capacity under the Prime Minister’s ‘Aatma nirbhar Bharat’ vision. He emphasized that the aim was to build a home-based industry to make India a defense-producing center that not only addresses domestic needs, but also meets international needs.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh awarded Vietnam 12 High Speed ​​Guard Boats during a visit to Hong Ha Shipyard in Hai Phong on June 09, 2022. These boats were built under the US $ Indian Government 100 million Defense Line of Credit to Vietnam. . The first five boats were built at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Shipyard in India and seven others at Hong Ha Shipyard. Senior civil and military officials from India and Vietnam were present during the dedication ceremony.
In his address, Raksha Mantri described the project as a shining example of ‘Make India, Make the World’ as seen by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said the successful completion of this project, despite the challenges due to the Covid-19 epidemic, is a testament to the commitment and efficiency of the Indian defense industry and Hong Ha Shipyard. He expressed confidence that the project will be a precursor to many co-operative defense activities between India and Vietnam in the future. Raksha Mantri is on a three-day official trip to Vietnam. On the first day of talks in Hanoi on June 08, 2022, Shri Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Vietnamese National Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang. Both sides have signed a ‘Joint Vision Statement on the India-Vietnam Defense Partnership by 2030’ to promote security cooperation. A MoU to simplify procedures for the benefit of beneficial programs was also introduced between the two countries. The Raksha Mantri also called on Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
