Punjab Rolls Out ₹500 Cr Plan to Fight Stubble Burning with Subsidized Machines

In a big move to protect the environment the Punjab government has launched a ₹500 crore plan to help farmers stop burning crop stubble. Under this initiative farmers can get subsidies to buy crop residue management (CRM) machines like happy seeders super seeders and straw choppers.

Announcing the scheme Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said individual farmers will get a 50% subsidy, while cooperatives and gram panchayats will receive up to 80%. Farmers can apply online to avail the benefit.

This effort is already showing results. The government reports a 70% drop in stubble burning cases compared to last year. The plan also helped set up 1,331 custom hiring centers, making it easier for farmers to access the necessary machines.

The scheme not only aims to reduce pollution from farm fires but also ensures better air quality for everyone just in time for the important Rabi crop season.
