Online nominations for Padma Awards 2023 to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2023

Online nominations/recommendations for Padma Awards 2023 to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2023 opened on 1st May 2022. Last date for nominations for Padma Awards is 15th September 2022. Nominations/recommendations for Padma Awards will be accepted online only on the portal Rashtriya Puruskar (https://awards.gov.in). The Padma awards, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, are among the highest civilian honors in the country. These awards were established in 1954 and are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day. The award seeks to recognize “outstanding work” and is given for outstanding and exceptional achievements/services in all fields/disciplines such as arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civic services, commerce and industry etc.

All persons without distinction of race, occupation, status or sex are eligible for these prizes. Government employees including those working with PSUs, except doctors and scientists, are not eligible for the Padma award. The government has pledged to transform the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”. All citizens are therefore requested to submit nominations/recommendations including their nomination.

A concerted effort can be made to identify talented persons whose excellence and achievements truly deserve recognition among women, weaker sections of society, SCs and STs, divyang persons and who render selfless service to society. Nominations/recommendations should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the above Portal, including a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words), clearly expressing the outstanding and exceptional achievements/service of the person recommended therein in the relevant field/discipline. Details in this regard are also available under the heading ‘Awards and Medals’ on the website of the Ministry of Home Affairs (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in) .
