Several districts in West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand have been experiencing heavy rains due to a low-pressure area in the eastern region. The Meteorological department has forecasted heavy rain in several districts of West Bengal until October 5, influenced by a low-pressure area over southwest Jharkhand and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh. While light to moderate rain is expected in most places in the state during this period.
In Odisha, heavy rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours due to the southwest monsoon, with more downpours expected for another day. Eleven districts in Odisha have received light to moderate rainfall since Wednesday morning. The Met Office reported that the average rainfall in the state from October 1 to October 3 was 57.3 mm, compared to the average October monthly rainfall of 114.7 mm. An orange warning has been issued for several districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall until Wednesday morning.
Jharkhand has also experienced continued rainfall due to the low-pressure system, with Dhurki in Garhwa district recording the state’s highest rainfall at 152 mm. The state received 78 mm of precipitation from October 1 to October 3, well above the normal rainfall of 11.7 mm.
Several places in West Bengal, including Kolkata, witnessed downpours overnight and on Wednesday morning. The Met department had previously forecasted heavy rain in various districts in both south and north Bengal until October 5.
The heavy rainfall has been attributed to the low-pressure area in the eastern region, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of affected areas.
