Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana compliments bowlers for giving Australia “difficult time”

Despite losing by five wickets against Australia in the present ICC Women’s World Cup, Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana was happy with her team’s bowling performance in giving the Australians a hard time.

On Friday, Beth Mooney led Australia to a five-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 at Basin Reserve. Nigar Sultana stated the bowlers and fielders performed a good job, but that they need to improve their batting.

“At the very least, we were able to give the Australians a hard time today. The bowlers and fielders deserve all of the credit. We need to improve our batting because we were 30-40 runs down. The wind was blowing when I first saw Jahanara, making it difficult for her to run. Salma bowled quite well tonight, and I’m very happy of her,” captain Nigar Sultana said.

“I indicated that if we did well here, we might be able to give them a hard time. It was tough since the outfielders couldn’t see the ball because it was too dark, and I had to switch fielders for each ball. We played our first match here, and we’ll use a lot of what we learned tonight against England,” Sultana stated.

Fargana Hoque, Bangladesh’s primary batter, was dismissed for 8 runs by Annabel Sutherland, then Sharmin Akhter and skipper Nigar Sultana were both bowled for 7 runs by Jess Jonassen.

Rumana Ahmed scored 15 runs and teamed with Mondal for a 33-run partnership, while Khatun’s unbeaten 15 runs looked solid at the crease as Bangladesh pushed for a higher rate in the tournament late stages of their innings.

With this win, Australia concluded the group stage unbeaten and in first place, while Bangladesh may celebrate their lone victory over Pakistan.
