Adding teeth to India’s awesome naval base, two traditional Navy-built warships will be unveiled today at the Mazagon Docks in Mumbai in front of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Leading warships – ‘Surat’ (15B Destroyer project) and ‘Udaygiri’ (Project 17A Frigate) – are “next-generation archery destroyers”, the defense minister said in a statement.
“Both 15B and P17A ships were built internally by the Directorate of Naval Design (DND), which has been the center of all national naval design activities,” the statement said.About 75% of orders for equipment and naval programs are provided by indigenous firms including small, medium and micro enterprises (MSMEs), “which is a true testimony of Atmanirbhar Bharat”, the department said.
Surat ’is part of Project 15B and is one of the largest indestructible ships built by India. Named after the second-largest commercial center in western India, the ship was built using blockchain construction, which included the construction of a two-storey building, which was later integrated into Mazagon Docks Limited. Udaygiri ’(Frigate), named after the mountains in Andhra Pradesh, is the third ship under Project 17A Frigates. Equipped with advanced weapons, sensors and platform management systems. This battleship is the “reincarnation” of an earlier version of Udaygiri, which saw many challenging missions in its 30-year ministry, from 18 February 1976 to 24 August 2007.
According to the Department of Defense, there are currently more than 50 ships and submarines in operation, and the Indian Navy has about 150 ships and submarines. Speaking at ‘Atmanirbharta’, Indian Navy Commander Admiral R Hari Kumar said that in December 2021 seven years ago, all 28 ships and submarines sent to the Navy were built by India. He added that of the 39 submarines and ships that were not well built, 37 were built in Indian naval vessels.
