12 passengers and 41 others were injured after a private luxury bus caught fire by truck in Nashik

At least 12 passengers, including a child, died and 41 others were injured after a private luxury bus caught fire after being hit by a truck in Nashik early Saturday morning. According to the police, the accident happened near Nandura Naka at around 5:15 am when a sleeper bus of private tour operator Chintamani Travels collided with a truck carrying coal. After hitting the truck, the bus also hit a mini cargo van, causing it to overturn. According to the administration, the bus was carrying around 53 passengers, including the driver and one other person, much more than the actual number of seats.

A senior police official said ten of the 41 injured are critical and undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Another 21 were treated for moderate injuries, the rest were released after receiving preliminary medical treatment. The death toll in the accident may rise, officials said, as the condition of some of the injured is serious. Among the dead was a two-year-old child, he said, adding that the bus was completely gutted by the fire.
