NASA captured the moment when the Sun sent a powerful burst of energy into space

On Sunday, the American space agency NASA captured the moment when the Sun sent a powerful burst of energy into space. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration reported on Instagram that a “strong solar flare” erupted from the Sun on October 2, and NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which constantly monitors the Sun, managed to photograph the event. “I love your flares. The sun is not idle in the sky. Our nearby star is a dynamic object that is constantly changing and creating space weather events like this solar flare captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) @nasasolarsystem on Oct. 2, 2022, “.

Solar flares are intense bursts of radiation originating from the release of magnetic energy on the Sun’s surface. These eruptions and solar flares have the ability to affect radio communications, power grids, GPS, and can also pose a risk to spacecraft and astronauts. The space agency went on to say that it classified the Oct. 2 solar flare as an “X1 flare.” “Class X indicates the most intense flare, while a number that reaches a maximum of nine gives more information about its strength,” NASA explained. Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time the Sun has been caught releasing powerful bursts of energy into space.

In April, NASA also managed to capture an image of a solar flare using the Solar Dynamics Observatory. In the same month, CESSI, which is the Center of Excellence in Space Sciences (India), announced that there was a potentially dangerous solar flare that could disrupt satellite communications and global positioning systems. Solar flares in themselves do not have a negative impact on human beings, they can only wreak havoc on technology due to the release of magnetic energy.
