Enforcement Directorate Raids AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s Residence in Delhi Excise Policy Scam Money Laundering Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. This move comes a day after a court granted permission for two accused individuals to become approvers in the case.

Money Laundering Probe Targets AAP MP

The ED’s raid on Sanjay Singh’s residence marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22. The policy, aimed at granting licenses to liquor traders, has faced allegations of promoting cartelization and favoring specific dealers who allegedly paid bribes.

The Aam Aadmi Party has vehemently denied these allegations, insisting that there were no wrongdoings within the excise policy. AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta expressed the party’s perspective, stating, “Since Sanjay Singh was continuously raising questions on the issue of PM Modi and Adani, this is the reason why raids are being conducted at his residence. Nothing was found earlier, nothing will be found today.”

Two Key Witnesses Turned Approvers

On Tuesday, a Delhi court granted approval for Raghav Magunta, the son of YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, and Delhi-based businessman Dinesh Arora to become approvers in the money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy scam. Special Judge M K Nagpal pardoned both individuals while emphasizing their cooperation with investigators and disclosure of any information relevant to the case.

Earlier this year, Sanjay Singh had written to Finance Secretary T V Somanathan, asserting that the ED had unjustifiably associated his name with the alleged liquor scam, damaging his public image. Singh pointed out that his name had been linked to the case based on statements from Dinesh Arora.

Supreme Court Hearing for Manish Sisodia

Significantly, the ED’s searches at Sanjay Singh’s residence coincided with the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing of the bail plea for AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. Sisodia’s case is linked to the ongoing investigation into the Delhi excise policy.

The Enforcement Directorate’s actions highlight the intensifying scrutiny of the Delhi excise policy, with political and legal dimensions intertwining in the process. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the political landscape in the national capital and beyond.
