The Union Home Ministry has announced that migrants from six minority communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be granted citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) with retrospective effect. Under the CAA, which expedites citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities who entered India on or before December 31, 2014, individuals granted citizenship through registration or naturalization will be deemed citizens of India from the date of their entry into the country.
