October 16, 2024 – Mandi, Himachal Pradesh: A three-day workshop on hospital safety and disaster management was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan at the Regional Hospital in Mandi district. The workshop, organized in collaboration with Bal Raksha Bharat and the Health Department, brought together over 40 doctors from the health, AYUSH, and animal husbandry sectors to focus on strengthening healthcare services during disasters.
In his opening remarks, DC Devgan emphasized the importance of preparing healthcare professionals to respond effectively during disasters, underscoring that their role is as critical as that of emergency responders. He also highlighted the significant impact disasters can have on children’s mental health, an issue that was a key focus of the workshop and specifically addressed by representatives from Bal Raksha Bharat.
Dr. Tanvi, from Bal Raksha Bharat, emphasized that the workshop aimed to equip healthcare services with the skills needed for swift emergency response. She, along with representatives Mohammed Asif and Sunil Kumar, provided valuable insights into how disasters affect children’s well-being, stressing the importance of mental health support in disaster recovery.
The workshop was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Madan Kumar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Narender Bhardwaj, District Health Officer D. Dinesh Thakur, Dr. Pavnesh, and representatives from the District Disaster Management Authority.
The goal of the workshop is to enhance disaster preparedness in hospitals, ensuring that health services are resilient and capable of responding efficiently during crises. The initiative aims to build a robust healthcare response system that can support the community effectively during emergency situations.
