Andhra Pradesh CM immediate release of water to the Krishna-Godavari delta

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for the immediate release of water to the Krishna-Godavari delta in an effort to support early crop planning and protect agriculture from potential cyclonic damage. During a review meeting held at the Secretariat, he outlined a strategy focused on achieving three agricultural harvests per year through efficient and scientific water management.

Naidu directed officials to make optimal use of groundwater and reservoir resources to facilitate continuous farming throughout the year. He also pushed for the acceleration of key irrigation and infrastructure projects, including the widening of the Handri-Neeva main canal and the timely completion of Veligonda Stage 1 by June 2026, which will involve central government support.

The chief minister highlighted the importance of preparing for drought-prone periods and ordered immediate desilting work on the Budameru river to enhance water flow. In addition, tenders for the Polavaram-Banakacherla link project are expected to be issued by the end of June. The Polavaram project, a major irrigation initiative, has reached 81.70 percent completion, with remaining work expected to be financed through central assistance and loans from externally aided projects.

Naidu’s approach reflects a broader vision of strengthening the state’s agricultural resilience through planned water distribution, faster infrastructure execution, and year-round cultivation.
