The Uttar Pradesh Police have announced significant traffic restrictions on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) due to the Kanwar Yatra, starting on Monday, July 22. The expressway will be closed to heavy vehicles, with diversions in place until 8 PM on August 5. This annual pilgrimage sees a large influx of devotees, prompting authorities to enforce traffic management measures to ensure safety and smooth flow.
Key Points of the Advisory:
Closure Dates: The restrictions begin on July 22 and extend to August 5 for heavy vehicles. All vehicles, including private cars, will face restrictions from July 29.
Duration of Sawan: According to Drik Panchang, Sawan will be observed from July 22 to August 19, lasting 29 days with five Mondays during this period.
Affected Areas: The expressway typically serves travelers from Noida, Delhi, and Ghaziabad.
Route Diversions:
•Delhi to Ghaziabad: Vehicles traveling from Delhi via Tulsi Niketan, Seemapuri, and Anand Vihar will be redirected along Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg towards UP Gate, then follow NH-9.
Destinations such as Haridwar, Amroha, Moradabad, and Lucknow: Use UP Gate, NH-9, the Dasna Intersection, and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
•Vehicles from Baghpat: Redirected through Tronica City or Sonia Vihar towards Delhi.
•Hapur and Bulandshahr to Ghaziabad: Rerouted to NH-9 via the Dasna railway overbridge.
•Loni Border Restrictions: Vehicles from Santosh Medical cut on NH-9 towards Meerut Tiraha will also face restrictions.
•Prohibited Areas for Heavy Vehicles: Entry restrictions from Gaur Green, Khoda, Kalapatthar, Sector 62, Chhijarasi, and Kanavani to Indirapuram via NH-9.
•Specific Roads: Trucks are banned on Gangnahar Patri Kanwad Road, Pipeline Road, NH-34 (formerly NH-58), and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
•Additional Diversions: Hapur to Modinagar via Bhojpur and Vasundhara flyover to Mohannagar.
Pilgrim Camp Regulations
•Camp Setup Restrictions: Pilgrim groups are prohibited from setting up camps along NH-9 or DME. Camps are only allowed on traditional routes with police permission.
•Approved Applications: Out of 214 applications for Kanwar camps, 116 have been approved by the police.
The Kanwar Yatra is expected to attract 15-20 lakh devotees this year and will conclude on August 2.
