There is usually a lot of camaraderie between the players of India and Pakistan whenever they meet on the cricket field these days. The sides clashed in an Asia Cup Group A match on Sunday, where India secured a narrow five-wicket victory over Babar Azam’s side.
The two players were friendly throughout the match and Hardik Pandya even put his hand on Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan’s shoulder on one occasion, surprising him, before the duo ended up laughing.
However, it was not always the same. Tempers have flared between the India and Pakistan players on some occasions and one of the fights that is still going on is that of Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir. The duo famously clashed on the field during an ODI match in 2007 in Kanpur. Usually, players often say that once they get back from the field, all is forgotten, but in this particular relationship, that was seemingly not the case.
Over the past few years, Gambhir and Afridi have often clashed on the social networking site Twitter, be it for cricket or political reasons. And on Sunday, the former Pakistan captain took another shot at Gambhir during his tenure at Aaj Tak as part of an expert panel on Pakistan’s Samaa TV. Afridi claimed that even Indian players don’t like Gautam Gambhir in an interaction where Harbhajan Singh also took part. “It’s not like I had a fight with any of the Indian players.
Yes, sometimes there are some arguments with Gautam Gambhir on social media. And I think Gautam is the kind of character that nobody likes even in the Indian team,” Afridi said while talking about his relationship with the Indian players. While it drew laughs from both the hosts and Harbhajan, the comment did not go down well with a number of Indian fans.
There were many other tweets from Indian fans similarly expressing their disappointment at Harbhajan laughing with Afridi after his comment on Gambhir. with Hardik Pandya he put on a match-winning knock (3/25 and 33*) to lead India to victory. The side will now take on Hong Kong in their final group game on August 31.
